EXIMIO is a system used to prevent fires and dust explosions within process industries where inflammable material is handled. The Eximio-C Control unit is the monitoring device for all new Firefly Systems. The control unit and its graphic user interface Eximio IntuVision™ are designed to be clear, informative, and user-friendly operation. This will be the main resource to track and control both types of systems: Preventative – Spark Detection or Protective – Quick Suppression. The unit displays all detectors and extinguishing devices on its IntuVision screen. The system can electronically monitor items in its network. The Firefly Control System is a modular and decentralized system. The system is connected with remote support. For large systems, there is the possibility to add more screens within a network. The system includes an Application View, detailed information of detectors (including temperature and humidity), a logbook of events specified in milliseconds, statistic module, etc. The unit has an integrated power supply with battery backup. The controller has analog and digital inputs for the sensors and transmitters, as well as relay outputs for control and interlocking of the process. The Eximio Controller also features InfoLed™, LED indicators at the bottom right of the unit to indicate the status of the system with different colors. The EXIMIO system also consists of new purpose-built monitoring, Firefly ProAct™ technology which is a new patented feature of EXIMIO. It collects and analyzes advanced data, and can activate precaution measures to avoid a fire or dust explosion to spread within the process.

The HD detector is a part of Firefly system generation Eximio. The HD detector is programmed to spot ignition sources before a fire or explosion has occurred to prevent any damage in an industrial process. The detectors can be placed in various applications with pneumatic ducting or fall chutes. The HD detector is configured to signal based on the Minimum Ignition Temperature (MIT) / Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE) of the material handled. This is a passive IR detector. In order to prevent false triggering, the HD detectors are insensitive to daylight. The detector has Multi-Checkpoint™ technology to ensure efficient detection. As the passing ignition source is traveling through the pipeline the hot particle will be sensed 3 times before detection is approved. The sensor has two IR test diodes which automatically tests function and sensitivity during normal operation without affecting the detector's capability. A key feature is Firefly DualEye™ technology to enable a full 180° view angle per detector. Part of the Eximio InfoLed™ system, at the bottom of the detector housing, there are color-coded LED lights to indicate the current status of the system.

Part of the Preventive Series, the MGD (Multi-gas detector) is a detector designed for early fire detection and for monitoring harmful and hazardous substances in both industrial and public applications. The MGD is paired with the Eximio Controller, Quick Activating Water Spray, and often IR detectors. This device is known as the “electronic nose”, useful in storage or open applications. Firefly multi-gas detection is as follows: upon gas detection (demand), the control logic initiates activation by relaying the signal to the customer’s system. These are very sensitive sensors that recognize gases released at the beginning of a fire, detecting before visible smoke or flames. Once the MGD detects gas, various types of activation can occur, such as water extinguishing into the process, CO2 extinguishing, diverting the material, stop of material flow with abortion gates, etc. The detector is comprised of MOS thick film technology which enables the detection of fire and hazardous events with high sensitivity on the basis of a wide range of gaseous fire decomposition. The MGD includes an array with six chemical gas sensors, temperature sensors, and humidity sensors. It uses data processing with artificial intelligence.

The flame detectors are used for extremely rapid detection in Protective, Quick Suppression Systems. The UVIR detectors are optically based, self-contained, microprocessor-controlled, ultraviolet/infrared (UV/IR) and high-speed ultraviolet (UV) flame detectors designed for the Firefly Eximio system. The patented TrueDetect™ technology minimizes false alarms. The flame detector can be used in open or closed areas, it registers the UV and IR light emitted from material burning. The detectors use FEA (Fire Event Analysis) recognition technology to distinguish between radiation from hazardous flames even with a lit room. They can be used in applications with sudden fires from hydrocarbon fuels or when proper options are selected, from specified non-hydrocarbon fuels, may occur. These detectors can be paired with various mitigation options (including water mist nozzles, abort gates, CO2 gas system, slide gates, etc.). The IR flame detector is equipped with an automatic self-test feature that verifies the proper function of the electronics, sensors, and optical surfaces. The detectors are approved for both indoor and outdoor installations. Previous CUE systems had the OAD detector which is now referred to as the UVIR detector; both are fully functional with the new Eximio system. The response of detection is less than 1 second.

The Firefly Water Mist System is paired with Flame Detection and the Eximio Control Unit for quickly suppressing hot particles. This system is used for high-risk and critical machines. The water mist system rapidly extinguishes while utilizing small volumes of water. They can be used in open or enclosed areas. The Firefly Quick Suppression System uses the same Eximio controller as the Spark Detection System, so there is the option to combine both prevention and protection, to achieve an optimized system functionality. After flame detection, the hydraulic water mist system can suppress the flame within 0.3 to 3.0 seconds. The system can supply water for over 10 minutes.

Used for spark detection systems, the water spray nozzles prevent fire and explosions before they occur. They are paired with passive IR detectors and an Eximio Control unit. They are made of brass and are offered with different water pressure speeds. The water spray nozzle system has PowerImpact™ Extinguishing, which can cover ducts and chutes up to 98” in diameter with a velocity up to 164 ft/s. The reaction time for the water spray, after detection is less than 70 ms. The full cone water spray nozzles have a spray angle of 110° each. The nozzles release large water droplets for momentum and penetration. The system includes quick release and flexible hoses, which make it simple to test the system without releasing water into the process.
