The Conex® Controller is the brains behind the state-of-the-art Interceptor®-HRD suppression system. The Conex® Controller is where the detectors from the suppression system along with the suppression bottles themselves are electrical terminated. Programmed with state-of-the-art software and algorithms, the Conex® Controller provides real-time analysis of the process being protected as well as diagnostics of the Interceptor®-HRD suppression system. In the event of a deflagration, the detector(s) connected to the system will transmit an activation signal to the Conex® where it will interpret the signal and then deploy the Interceptor®-HRD suppression bottles within milliseconds. User-friendly push buttons and HMI visual displays make it easy for operators to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot and operate the system.

The DetEx® pressure detector uses a ceramic material embedded in a fluid at the end of each detection probe to measure the pressure within the process being protected. The detector has state-of-the-art programming for both dynamic detection and static detection. The detector programming includes a “floating zero” feature. The floating zero is designed to differentiate and adjust the activation point based on process fluctuations. This allows for minor pressure spikes within the protected process to have no effect on the pressures required by our system for activation. Each detector includes a process adaptor for easy installation. All DetEx® detectors feature data recording and can generate plots that provide second to second recording of the pressure inside the protected volume. The DetEx® can come in a single or dual detector arrangement. The dual headed DetEx® includes two probes that can be programmed for a variety of different voting logics. The DetEx® pressure detector combined with the floating zero technology provides unsurpassed reliability and reaction for chemical suppression systems.

EXIMIO is a system used to prevent fires and dust explosions within process industries where inflammable material is handled. The Eximio-C Control unit is the monitoring device for all new Firefly Systems. The control unit and its graphic user interface Eximio IntuVision™ are designed to be clear, informative, and user-friendly operation. This will be the main resource to track and control both types of systems: Preventative – Spark Detection or Protective – Quick Suppression. The unit displays all detectors and extinguishing devices on its IntuVision screen. The system can electronically monitor items in its network. The Firefly Control System is a modular and decentralized system. The system is connected with remote support. For large systems, there is the possibility to add more screens within a network. The system includes an Application View, detailed information of detectors (including temperature and humidity), a logbook of events specified in milliseconds, statistic module, etc. The unit has an integrated power supply with battery backup. The controller has analog and digital inputs for the sensors and transmitters, as well as relay outputs for control and interlocking of the process. The Eximio Controller also features InfoLed™, LED indicators at the bottom right of the unit to indicate the status of the system with different colors. The EXIMIO system also consists of new purpose-built monitoring, Firefly ProAct™ technology which is a new patented feature of EXIMIO. It collects and analyzes advanced data, and can activate precaution measures to avoid a fire or dust explosion to spread within the process.

The HD detector is a part of Firefly system generation Eximio. The HD detector is programmed to spot ignition sources before a fire or explosion has occurred to prevent any damage in an industrial process. The detectors can be placed in various applications with pneumatic ducting or fall chutes. The HD detector is configured to signal based on the Minimum Ignition Temperature (MIT) / Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE) of the material handled. This is a passive IR detector. In order to prevent false triggering, the HD detectors are insensitive to daylight. The detector has Multi-Checkpoint™ technology to ensure efficient detection. As the passing ignition source is traveling through the pipeline the hot particle will be sensed 3 times before detection is approved. The sensor has two IR test diodes which automatically tests function and sensitivity during normal operation without affecting the detector's capability. A key feature is Firefly DualEye™ technology to enable a full 180° view angle per detector. Part of the Eximio InfoLed™ system, at the bottom of the detector housing, there are color-coded LED lights to indicate the current status of the system.

The Interceptor-BD (Blast Deflector) is an accessory to CV Technology explosion or deflagration vents. It is designed to deflect the flame ball exhaust and reduce the safety area near explosion vents. Explosion or deflagration vents exhaust a flame ball during a deflagration. That flame ball can extend to distances in excess of 60 feet (18 m) which requires a very large safety zone. Safety zones can limit the accessibility to process area or create limitation in the layout of process equipment. The I-BD is designed to direct the flame ball exhaust from occupied areas and thereby moving the safety zone.

The Interceptor®-EV® is a NFPA compliant flameless venting device. Specially designed with a slim, elongated profile this flameless vent is ideal for bucket elevators and conveyors where installation locations are limited. The lighter frame is painted carbon steel with a stainless steel mesh insert. The compact design allows for easier handling and installation. Comprised of both the flame arrestor and explosion vent the Interceptor®-EV® can be rearmed in the field. The standard TLFG model explosion vent allows this flameless vent to be used on variety of difficult applications including bucket elevators, conveyors, and small vessels.

The Interceptor®-FV® is a completely passive isolation device designed to prevent the propagation of deflagration in a duct or pipeline. This NFPA 69 compliant flap valve features a painted carbon steel body with a mechanically retained open flap, which allows for easier material flow through the device. During an upset condition, the regular flow is interrupted and flux of pressure coming from the opposite directions causes the Interceptor®-FV® to slam and lock shut, effectively preventing the dust deflagration from propagating to interconnected equipment or areas. The flap valve’s design allows the device to be effectively used in low dust loading applications, such as dust collection systems, cyclones, and mills.

The Interceptor®-HRD chemical isolation system is an NFPA 69 compliant solution. The principle of operation for the Interceptor®-HRD system is timely detection of the pressure rise or flame-front during the initial stage of an explosion, followed by fast injection of an extinguishing agent from the 5L isolation bottle. Comprised of a CONEX Controller, a pressure or optical detector, and a 5L isolation bottle, the Interceptor®-HRD chemical isolation system is ideal for almost any application. With several suppressant agents available, the Interceptor®-HRD is ideal for both sanitary and non-sanitary applications, such as including pneumatic conveying systems, dust collection systems, cyclones, mills, dryers, conveyors, and storage vessels.

The Interceptor®-HRD Suppression Bottles are an ATEX approved and NFPA compliant solution for mitigating the effects of a combustible dust deflagration. These suppression bottles are similar in design to fire extinguishers: They are pressurized cylinders that contain a high-pressure propellent (Nitrogen) to expel a suppressant (typically baking soda) at a very rapid rate. These suppression bottles are installed on industrial machinery that handles combustible dust and acts as a safeguard for this equipment in the event that a dust deflagration does occur as they will be activated and will reduce the effects to a tolerable level. Once activated, the suppression bottles will deploy suppressants creating a homogenous cloud inside the protected volume within milliseconds. The dust deflagration is then mitigated through two primary thermodynamic effects: First, the rapid rate of deployment causes the oxygen to become displaced from the combustion event thus starving the reaction and, secondly, the suppressant acts as a heat sink absorbing the heat of reaction thus interrupting the event short of full development.

The Interceptor®-SG® is a completely air operated slide gate valve, compliant with NFPA 69 standards. The Interceptor®-SG® slide gate valve is a normally open device with pneumatic air cylinders containing compressed air to lock the valve shut once a signal from a pressure detector is received, indicating the start of a deflagration. The air operated Interceptor®-SG® slide gate valve can be quickly rearmed at the controls after activation without any rebuild or ignitor replacement. The valve’s stainless-steel bore makes it ideal for food-grade applications, as well as almost any system, including pneumatic conveying systems, dust collection systems, cyclones, mills, storage vessels, and metal dust applications.
